Wrangler National Finals Rodeo - 'The Super Bowl of Rodeo'

The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (WNFR) is held at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada every December.  The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo is ten days of rides, wrecks, and unforgettable moments in the sport of rodeo.

The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) organizes the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, which is the championship event that concludes the PRCA’s rodeo season.  It is here the Cowboy and Cowgirls who have earned the most money in their event are crowned the World Champion.

The first National Finals Rodeo was hosted in Dallas, Texas in 1959 to 1961, Los Angeles hosted the NFR 1962 to 1964, Oklahoma City hosted the NFR 1964 to 1984, Las Vegas has hosted the NFR since 1984. In 2001 the PRCA and Wrangler reached an agreement that allowed Wrangler to become the first title sponsor of NFR.

Fifteen contestants are invited to compete in Las Vegas at the WNFR based on their season earnings on the rodeo circuit at PRCA sanctioned rodeos.  Their season earnings are added to their WNFR winnings to determine the World Champions in each event.

At the end of ten days of glory, pain, blood, sweat, and tears the eight champions are crowned in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping - header, team roping - heeler, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. The cowboy with the highest earnings who has competed regularly in two or more events during the year is crowned the World All-Around Rodeo Champion Cowboy.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls continue to travel the rodeo road with hopes and dreams on competing the next year in Vegas, and being crowned a World Champion.
